MORNING STAR REHABILITATION CENTRE

This is a faith-based organization run by the Assumption Sisters of Eldoret. This project was started in 1993 to cater to street and potential street children with the aim of providing informal and formal education by paying school fees for both secondary and primary schools, with the goal of seeing them receive good and quality education that will empower them to be self-sustainable in the future.

REHABILITATION

Rehabilitation usually takes 3-6 months, from which the children who show the willingness to continue with studies are enrolled in formal school and those over the age of going to school are placed in vocational training institutions. Here they are helped to acquire skills in their areas of preference, that will help them be self sustaining after they leave the center. During this time, the process of reintegration and reunion with their families is done.

PARENTS EMPOWERMENT

This is a program that endevours to empower the boys' parents and their immediate family members in various matters not limited to their economic welfare, engage the families on spiritual affairs and bring them close to God, socially we encourage interaction between the families, other members and us. Moreover we try to take care of their psychological needs in every possible way that we can.

"About Us

The Centre provides food, medical care, spiritual nourishment, shelter, informal and formal education, as well as guidance and counseling. The increasing number of street children living on the streets is alarming, and if no more intensive mechanisms are put in place, the phenomenon may escalate and have a costly impact on both individuals and society. Hence, it calls for social responsibility. We have observed and assessed the situation with a lot of concern. Street children are hated, neglected, and seen as perpetual beggars, and their dignity is not upheld at all by many. Due to this hostile kind of life on the streets, the children are exposed to many hazards such as immense child abuse, STDs, and HIV/AIDS. While at the Centre, the boys undergo a rehabilitation program lasting between 3 to 6 months, after which they are reintegrated into families and other relevant institutions, such as boarding schools, or they network with other programs.
